Lots of people will know of my obsession with programming puzzles, Project Euler and Advent of Code especially. No longer content with just solving them, I decided to start creating and publishing my own. SystemsCheck is an engineering puzzle game set aboard the starship Orion. You play a cadet, handed increasingly alarming requests by a chief engineer with questionable delegation instincts, reactor shutdown logs, misrouted load balancers, cleaning droids with poor judgement. You solve each one by writing code against your own puzzle input, which is unique to you, so no copying answers. The sci-fi setting came first, it gave me an excuse to make the puzzle flavour text as ridiculous as I wanted. The technical side took longer to get right, especially making sure inputs generate reliably and solvers hold up against edge cases. I built the whole thing in Rust, partly because I wanted an excuse to run a full end to end Rust app in production and to play around with some new dev ops tooling I was working on. There is no set cadence for new puzzles but the puzzle corpus will keep growing. Try it and let me know what you think!
