Hey PH, excited to share ☀️ Sunlight is out!
The first camera-based infinite canvas window manager for Mac
- 355″+ virtual desktop
- 120fps native multi-touch interactions
- Guides, grids and haptics
- Minimap
- ⌘Tab, Mission Control, Dock, widgets and desktop out of the box
☀️ Sunlight is the way I imagined the Mac working before I got my 1st gen MacBook Air in high school (2008)
I had looked at a bunch of Apple videos of Mission Control (Exposé back then) and somehow decided it worked like an infinite canvas. I even told my mom about it! Using a Mac changed my life forever. Joining the early iPhone jailbreak community in 2008-2010 is what got me into building and designing products.
Windowing on the Mac is so good it's one of those "if it ain't broke don't fix it" things. And yet, it always felt lacking. With ☀️ Sunlight, I'm putting all my love and care for great software into building a WM that is:
- for me first, for everyone else second
- highly opinionated, yet configurable
- consistently running at 120fps
- as compute and energy efficient as a clean Mac
We recently launched Sunlight 0.2 beta, which adds:
- Picture-in-picture any window
- Redesigned settings
- Lots of stability fixes
- Installation automatically disables Stage Manager and Spaces
- Experimental: use windows at any zoom and Tell Sunlight (needs Anthropic key)
Phenomenal! As a designer and I love that I can have this infinite board just like in Figma. It's so rare to see innovation in UX. Super badass
