A lot of people have figured out that booking vacation rentals direct — cutting Airbnb out of the transaction — is a great way to save money. The problem is that actually finding the direct listing is really hard. You've got a listing in front of you, you know there's probably a direct site somewhere, and the only way to find it is reverse-image-searching photos and guessing at property names. Nobody does that. You just book on Airbnb and move on. And if you didn't know: Airbnb now charges hosts a 15.5% service fee on every booking in most markets. That replaced the old model, where hosts paid 3% and guests paid a separate service fee at checkout. Sounds like a win for guests, except the money didn't go anywhere — to keep the same payout, a host has to raise their listed price about 18%. The commission is still there. It just got baked into the price you see, where you can't spot it. That same property often has a direct site with no commission attached. Same house, same dates, same host, lower price. You just never find it. So we built StayFinder. It's a free Chrome extension that browses along with you on Airbnb and shows the direct price side by side with the listing you're looking at. If direct is cheaper, you see exactly how much. If it isn't, you see that too, and you book on Airbnb knowing you didn't leave money on the table. Why us: I'm the founder of StayFi. We've spent years helping short-term rental operators build direct booking channels. They'd launch great direct sites with better rates, and guests would never find them. Both sides wanted the same thing and there was no bridge between them. StayFinder is that bridge. The hard part wasn't comparing prices. It was property matching — figuring out with confidence that this Airbnb listing and that direct site are the same house, from photos and messy metadata. We've matched over 100,000 Airbnb listings with cheaper direct booking listings and we are adding 1000s every month.

The biggest challenge for this product is connecting Airbnb listings to direct booking listings because there are 10,000s of direct booking websites - some with only a few listings and then others with 1,000s. Every month we are adding 1000s of additional matches, and right now we are focused on more non-US inventory.

We will also add other OTA pricing in the future - like Vrbo, booking.com, and whimstay - so you will get a complete view of pricing across all channels for each listing.
