Spork gives you one restaurant recommendation at a time with no infinite scrolling, no review searching, and no analysis paralysis. Click a button, get a recommendation. Don't like it? Choose from a random set of cuisines for one more recommendation. That's it. No ratings, no reviews, no photos, not really much at all. Spork is a decision reducer, not another Yelp. Free to use, no account required.
I built Spork because I was spending more time scrolling through restaurants than actually eating at them. At the end of the day I'll eat almost anything, so why is it so hard to just choose somewhere to go? Spork tries to fix that by just...picking one.
This is the second time I have built the app as the first version was incredibly expensive to run (thanks google places API). The majority of the data in this version is pulled from open source APIs (overpass) to keep costs down for running. This helps me keep it completely free and I'd like to keep it that way.
It's a PWA so you can add it to your Home Screen. I'd love for people to try it and give your feedback (especially if the suggestions are bad...). And I'd also love to talk to other food lovers who might be interested in contributing to the project to try to make it a great recommendation machine!
Cheers!
