Command-line tools written in Python, Ruby, PHP or Node spend most of each call loading their code. speedrunner keeps them loaded in the background and starts each call from a ready copy, with the same output. For developers and teams who run aws, black, rubocop, artisan or eslint all day, in a shell, an editor or scripts. No per-tool setup, median x4.9 over 96 commands, safe fallback to the normal tool, single binary for Linux and macOS, free and open source.

Hi Product Hunt, I'm Anthony, the maker of speedrunner 👋
Every time you run a command-line tool like aws, black, rubocop or eslint, it spends most of its time loading its own code before doing any work. Called dozens of times a day, or hundreds in a script, that adds up. I wanted to see how much of that wait could simply disappear.
speedrunner keeps each tool loaded in the background and starts every call from that ready copy. You don't change the tool or configure anything: put srr in front of a command, or enroll it once in your shell.
Our demo script goes from 24.0 s to 5.3 s, with the same output. Over 96 commands, the median gain is x4.9.
To be upfront: it only cuts start-up time, so it shines on short commands called often, and a long run won't get much faster. If it can't serve a call, it just runs the tool normally.
It's free and open source, on Linux and macOS. After installing, run `speedrunner demo` to see the gain on the tools you have.
What would you try it on first? And if it breaks on your setup, please tell me, that's the feedback I want most.
