Doing sports in adulthood is not always that simple. Many of us have been part of registered sports clubs during our childhood but during adulthood, it is rarer. New kinds of platforms for sports are needed that serve the needs of adults. Challenges that adults often face with sports and exercise: 1. It might be hard to commit to a registered sports club as an adult. Having to go to practice several times a week can be hard as possibly work, studies, family, other social activities etc. take the majority of your time. 2. It is not always easy to organize activities or games for fun for you and your friends. It can be a real task to get everyone’s timetables to match. 3. There might be a higher threshold to try out new forms of sports and exercise as some clubs might require a certain skill level to participate. It can also be nerve-racking to join a group where everybody else already knows each other. 4. Not everyone has friends who are into sports or the same kinds of sports. 5. Not everyone has money to do sports. That's why we created SocialSports, a mobile app, that tackles these challenges efficiently. In SocialSports you only commit to those events that you yourself decide to join or create. Organizing becomes much easier as everyone who has the app nearby gets a notification when you publish your activity. When creating events, you can write about the skill level/nature of the event in the event description, so people know what they are signing up for. You don’t need a friend group to do sports as the events are open for anyone to join. Activities are held in public facilities, so they are free for their participants. We released SocialSports in Finland in autumn 2021 with an encouraging reception and now we are opening to the other Nordic Countries as well.
