How does the conflict detection actually work when two overlapping sales hit the same product — does it just block one from running, or does it pick a priority order automatically?

Finally tried this on my dev store and the CSV bulk import saved me a solid afternoon of clicking. The conflict detection caught two overlapping sales I had completely forgotten about, which alone is worth the install.
