There are so many BI tools already. Chartio, looker, mode analytics, Periscope. They all fulfill the same needs (sharing data, charting etc) at different price point.
And in the open source land, Redash (https://github.com/EverythingMe/...) is mature and frankly, extremely good. (And they also do charting)
What are the advantages of SlinkyDB over those tools?
@sidazhang Definitely agree there are lots of BI tools out there. SlinkyDB just aims to solve one problem- having everyone who needs data in your organization be able to access it simply. Painless setup and freemium pricing will help with this. But it will for sure be a fucking nasty journey with all the competition out there.
Thanks Nicholas!!
SlinkyDB's current functionality is similar to Heroku Dataclips. One thing we didn't like about Dataclips was that for people to query your database, they had to be a collaborator on your Heroku app. We think it shouldn't work that way, so we'll be working on simple and secure ways to control access to databases and queries.
Our big bet is that the majority of Slinky's users won't be software engineers who work directly on your web product's code. They'll be ops people, data scientists, executives, product managers, etc.
Things that will differentiate us further away from Dataclips will be a more intuitive search/discovery experience within your organization, easier onboarding/offboarding of users, and security controls (filters for sensitive data columns).
A friend and I built SlinkyDB last week to solve the problem of getting data to business folks. Before SlinkyDB, I used to write scripts to get data, execute them against Heroku, copy/paste the comma separated output into a file, then hipchat it to my CEO (there are probably better ways to do this). Now, I write and store the queries in SlinkyDB and share the saved query with my CEO so he can execute/export to CSV whenever he wants.

What else are you guys hoping to build into the product as it advances?
Sup Milan!
We have a few things in the works. Separate accounts for people within your company (similar to Github's organizations), an unobtrusive way help sift through tables/columns available to you, and easier ways to share queries/results with people in your company.
We have a strong product vision. SlinkyDB isn't gonna be a "pgAdmin in the cloud". Our favorite thing about Slinky is how light weight it is and we'll make sure it stays that way.
