Silence Cut is a Chrome extension that detects and skips silent sections in YouTube videos. It analyzes audio levels in real time, and either jumps over or speeds through quiet parts. You can choose between skip and speed-up modes (2x–16x), adjust silence detection sensitivity, and enable music-only section detection. A built-in volume meter shows audio levels in the player, and a stats tracker displays how many skips occurred and how much time you saved per session.

Hi everyone,
I built Silence Cut because I watch a lot of YouTube content, tutorials, lectures, and podcasts, and noticed how much dead air sits between sentences. Pauses, long silences before intros, quiet gaps in screen recordings. It adds up.
So I made a Chrome extension that monitors audio levels in real time and either skips or speeds through the silent parts. You set your own dB threshold, pick between skip or speed-up mode, and it handles the rest while you watch.
A few things I focused on:
- The controls live inside the YouTube player, so there's no separate pop-up to deal with
- A real-time volume meter shows exactly what the extension hears
- It tracks how many silences were skipped and how much time you saved in each session
- It works on live streams too, not just regular videos
I'd love to hear your feedback — especially if there are other platforms or features you'd want to see next.
