Hi Product Hunt — I’m Jason, the product maintainer.
Before deciding which Scrivener backup to open, you may want to inspect what changed between the two. Scrivener Backup Compare is a paid Windows x64 utility for that task. It keeps the input ZIPs unchanged and brings supported chapter structure and text differences into one local view.
Give it two complete ZIP backups of the same closed Windows Scrivener 3 project, using XML 2.0 and stable UUIDs. You can inspect supported chapter renames, moves and text changes, search or filter the results, and keep local comparison.html and comparison.json reports.
The included Demo uses fictional, maintainer-created backups. It shows supported changes and a separate UNKNOWN example; it is not a customer manuscript or a measured productivity result.
The scope matters: RTF and title coverage are partial. UNKNOWN means you need to review that item in Scrivener. A “Removed” result means absent from the later outline, not proof of physical deletion. The tool does not merge, restore, repair or choose the correct manuscript. Mac projects and unrelated, incomplete or still-syncing projects are outside the supported profile.
The Gumroad edition is a portable Windows x64 ZIP. It is unsigned and has evidence from one Windows host, so it is not a promise of compatibility with every Windows device. Stop if security software blocks it; do not bypass protection. The separate Microsoft Store package is a different distribution.
Comparison runs locally without cloud-model calls or manuscript network requests. Reports can contain manuscript text and paths; keep them private and do not paste them into public comments or send complete reports for support.

Which backup change would you most need to inspect before choosing what to open? I’m interested in concrete feedback on that decision.
