I built Scatti because culling a RAW shoot on Linux should be a focused local pass, not an import queue or cloud workflow. It reads each camera’s embedded JPEG preview, keeps the process keyboard-first, and gets picks ready for darktable or another developer. I’d love feedback from photographers who work this way.

I built this because I wanted a Photo Mechanic–shaped cull loop on Linux. Both hands on the keyboard, eyes on the frame, then open the keeps in darktable.

Most Linux tools are either full DAMs (digiKam) or developers (darktable). Both excellent, neither optimized as a dedicated culler.

What Scatti does

- Opens a folder of CR2 / CR3 / NEF / ARW / DNG (plus JPEG/PNG/TIFF/WebP)

- Shows the camera’s embedded JPEG. No demosaic, no import step

- Keys: P pick, X reject, 1–5 stars, Z 100% zoom, Enter fullscreen. Pick/reject auto-advance

- Writes Adobe-convention XMP for stars/rejects (xmp:Rating, reject -1); picks use a Scatti-specific property

- Fully local. No account to cull. License check is offline.

Honest limits

- Builds are unsigned for now (Windows / macOS). SHA256SUMS on the site

- No Intel Mac build. Apple Silicon only on macOS

- Not a head-to-head timed against Photo Mechanic or FastRawViewer
