A running session is a single timestamp, and each device counts down from its own clock, which is why they agree on the second. Sync goes through your private iCloud. There is nothing to sign up for and nothing we can see. The other opinion baked in: a session ending should be a moment, not a background event. Rossino chimes and asks what's next.
