What inspired us to build ReadFlow
We wanted one place for all our ebooks and reading notes—without handing our library to a single company or leaving highlights stuck in one app. We also wanted to lock the app on shared devices so only we could open it. Most readers either lock you into their cloud, show ads, or don’t sync notes properly. So we built ReadFlow.
What problem we’re solving
• Privacy on shared devices — App lock (PIN or biometrics) so only you can open the app.
• Data ownership — WebDAV sync: your books, progress, and notes on your own server (Nextcloud, 坚果云, etc.). No vendor lock-in.
• Notes that work everywhere — Highlights and annotations, export to Markdown/TXT/CSV, share as cards.
• Seeing your progress — Reading heatmaps, streaks, and reports.
• Optional AI — Integrate OpenAI, Claude, or Gemini for summaries, mind maps, and translation; you choose the provider.
How it evolved
We started with “sync and lock” as the core. Then we added reading stats (heatmaps, streaks) and better note export. User feedback pushed us to add AI tools (mind maps, translation) so heavy readers could go deeper without leaving the app. We kept the app free with an optional one-time Pro (unlimited books, full sync, all stats)—no subscription.
