I spent 8 years at ExpressVPN, and the whole time one thing bugged me: we could protect a file perfectly... right up until you hit "send." After that it's out of your hands and you are just trusting the person on the other end not to screenshot it, forward it, or leak it. And there was no private way to answer the obvious question: "okay, but who leaked this?" Every tool was a server, an account, or an ugly visible stamp.

So I built PrivateMark. It slips an invisible, per-recipient mark into each copy you share, and if one ever shows up where it shouldn't, you drop it back into the app and it tells you exactly whose copy it was. The part that nearly broke me was documents: there's no on-device way to render Office files, so I ended up writing PDF and Word/PowerPoint parsers from scratch in Swift, just so the mark survives being forwarded and re-exported.

Somewhere along the way I got carried away and added Hidden Photo, a real picture tucked inside an innocent-looking cover that only someone you've paired with in person can open. All of it runs on your device. No server ever sees your files. Not even me.

I have tried hard to be honest about what it does and doesn't do. There's a Security section in the app that spells out the limits plainly, because I'd rather under-promise. I would genuinely love your feedback, and I'll be here all day for the hard questions.
