Create your Platypus Print by reflecting on what is most important to your professional life. Explore teams with your cultural priorities who care about the same things that you do. Become a Platypus early adopter and help us shape the future of recruitment.
Hello hunters! Very excited for our launch here.
We’ve built this to help you find jobs that will make you truly happy. 😀
Much has happened in our professional and personal lives in the past two years, and we’ve seen how clearly they are intertwined. People now expect authentic interactions with employers, where they are understood, and where their unique priorities and values can shine through.
Wouldn’t it be great if you could get an insight into those interactions in a company you’d consider joining, without actually having to join them?
This is why we’ve built Platypus - to introduce you to specific teams with a culture that matches your individual preferences. For example, teams that share your priorities in terms of flexibility or inclusivity. 🤝🏻
We’re inviting you to join the Beta and explore the early functionality with the companies we have onboarded so far.
1️⃣ Create your Platypus Print by reflecting on what is most important to your professional life. This defines what you bring to an organization, and what you need in return to be happy at work.
2️⃣ Explore teams that match your cultural priorities and care about the same things that you do.
3️⃣ Swipe to connect with teams and uncover new job opportunities.
Become a Platypus early adopter and help improve the conversation between companies and candidates! By empowering candidates to not sacrifice what they care about, this is a paradigm shift in recruitment.
We’d love to get your feedback, thoughts, and questions below! 💜

Talent is the key for success. You need to understand your culture to be able to retain better. Platypus can be a great tool for that!
Super cool! And so relevant to choose companies where your you have a sense of purpose but ALSO aligned values (I could have used this a few years ago ngl 😅)
Hey Product hunt, Lex here - the data scientist behind the launch! Here’s a quick explanation of how it works:
Methodology:
There are two sides to Platypus. No, not the belly and back! On one side we have company data, and on the other we have candidate data (you!).
We’ve created a framework that aggregates anonymous cultural data from employees to give real-time updates on a company’s culture. The algorithm is based on a variety of factors that indicate how much a particular employee impacts a culture. For example, senior people impact a culture more than junior people, so their data contributes more to the culture map. Companies securely gather demographic data on each employee, so they can see on a macro and micro level how cultures and subcultures differ and evolve over time.
Expert matching recommendations:
We compare candidate’s cultural priorities against this live pool of data at the micro (team) level. Our recommendation engine uses a mixture of recruitment and maths logic to predict your alignment with a team’s existing culture. We are continuously working on our machine learning model to create even better suggestions for teams you might enjoy working with.

What are the main differences between you and your competition? :-)
@nickifriisw in short, the quality of our culture data. There are other job discovery tools out there but none of them are able to match candidates against live culture data that is continuously gathered from every individual in a company.

@dominic_parr Thanks, I see that clearly in your VP too. Do you believe that it is a defensible benefit/feature, that competitors will have a hard time to copy? And do you find that the quality of your culture data outweights the overall experience of your product vs competition ie. a competitor may have a better UI - but companies still choose you because of your unique culture data?
@nickifriisw the quality of the data is not completely defensible in the long run, I'm sure there will be ways to improve it in future. But for now, the quality of the data combined with quantity and associated network effects of the candidate sourcing tool if we move fast enough will be defensible. To your 2nd question: yes, we have had clients switch from more advanced competitors to us because of the quality of our data. E.g. competitors have more integrations and better benchmarking features but clients use us as they find the quality of competitor data too broad and lacking context.
@dominic_parr just finished doing my "Print"
- super easy to sign up and get started; love the Product-Led approach
- tricky to decide where to attribute points! Would be interested to see whether people tend to score the same, if they run it again
- Love the "interesting facts" section
- Interested to see how/if you keep engaging with me. I'm not looking for work right now, so curious as to see how I can keep getting value.
Hope that's useful - or at least, vaguely interesting!
@nik_hazell good that it was tricky - it's dealing with some big personal topics! The current functionality makes it mostly aimed at people who are actively looking or curious about other companies out there, but we are building ways to keep people like you engaged so that you return to us when you're ready or if we find a team that's great for you. Any suggestions there - hit me up!
