Hi Product Hunt! Solo developer here. 👋
What inspired this: I grew up around people who could pick produce without thinking about it. At the market,
my mother would lift a melon, smell the base, press the stem end, and put it back — all in two seconds, no explanation needed. It was knowledge that came from her mother, and hers before that.
Then one day I caught myself standing in a supermarket aisle, holding a mango, realizing I had inherited none of it. Everything is on the shelf all year, nothing tells you what's good today, and there's nobody standing next to you to teach you. That gap — between what one generation knew and the next one lost — is the whole app.
So Pick Right starts where the problem starts: point your camera at the produce in front of you and it tells you how to pick that exact item — what to look at, smell and feel, and the red flags to put it back. Behind the scan is a guide to 100+ fruits, vegetables, herbs and seeds that follows the produce home — storage, season, nutrients, pairings — every fact cited to published postharvest science, with each item's traditional Ayurveda reading printed beside the modern one.
A few choices I'm proud of:
— AI is the last resort. The chat answers from the app's own cited catalog first; only what it can't answer goes to the AI, and every reply is labeled so you always know which kind you got.
— For you: pick the lifestyle that matches yours — runner, nurse, new parent, truck driver — or build your own by answering a few plain questions (less sugar, more fiber, what you'd skip). The app then suggests produce that fits your life, and the picks change with the seasons.
— It ships in English, Hindi, Kannada and Spanish, with real typography for all four scripts.
The produce guide is free — no account, no ads. I'd love to know: what's the one fruit or vegetable you never feel confident picking? That's probably what I should cover next.
