What do you think? …

Oksana Sokolovsky
Dear community, thank you for supporting Performlive! We would love to hear your thoughts on our product!
Horror Jervil
I'm confused, how is this different from Twitch? Edit: Or youtube livestreaming for the matter. Like, are you just trying to compete with those services? That is fair enough, but if that is the case, it's going to be hard to drag people out of those ecosystems.
Oksana Sokolovsky
@horror_jervil thanks for your question. Few important differences to note - (1) we focus on wellness skills and products, twitch is mostly gaming, music, e-sports and few other categories (2) our paywall supports 5 business use cases - paid live stream, paid on stage, paid digital product, paid physical product (with shipping support) and donations/gifts. Our performers earn real cash. Schedule live yoga session, get paid, sell merchandise, receive gifts, all in one live stream. We offer auction and group sale features in live stream. These are just few differences, there are more....Summary - Performlive is live commerce platform. Twitch is live streaming social platform.

@oksana_sokolovsky Full disclosure, I'm a former Twitch employee, which is my reasoning for asking. Save for physical rewards, twitch and even youtube do what you have said. I can't help but feel like this is going to make you struggle to stand out, especially since the "Twitch is gamers" thing is kinda no longer the case, and thinking that is going to make you not take a real competitor seriously, when they have been expanding for years. Keep in mind, Twitch started as Justin.tv, and is going back to that general vibe, with just a slighter gamer aesthetic. Twitch aside, theres lots of large and small streaming services out there, and to put another one on the table just feels like you need to do something drastically different to stand out from the pack. If I do yoga lessons, wouldn't I be more interested it utilizing youtube's infrastructure and integrations for streams to reach my wider audience potential? I do wish you luck, and hope you have considered the tangible ways you can stand out from these massive giants, because I've seen streaming services come and go time and time again.

@horror_jervil Thanks for your thoughtful note. I am not aware of the e-commerce aspect of twitch and youtube, but will be sure to double check. Yes, we are aware of the giants, they will always be there. We are also aware of the fact that 95% of youtube users, make less than 12K per year, if that. Only 5% monetize their dreams. Our platform takes that into account and brings a very different business model together, not just streaming aspect, allowing everyone to monetize their potential, even if they only have 50 follower. Your points are valid though and really appreciated. Given you spent time at Twitch, you must know a lot more! and we value your perspective. We would love to learn more from you, please connect with us if and when you want via hello@performlive.com

@oksana_sokolovsky @horror_jervil . At first glance what you say makes sense, but I think you are forgetting the growth and market share being taken from REtail stores that are closing. It has to go somewhere, and to think 3 or 4 "Big malls" will have all the business is pretty narrow thought in my opinion. The riches in niches, and they have nichified with the deep service offering and features.
Oksana Sokolovsky
@sean_hynes You are absolutely correct on this.
Horror Jervil
I'm personally just not convinced the world really needs another livestreaming platform at the moment, I think trying to brand as a streaming platform is effectively suicide in this market, and if you want to focus on monetization, you should find a way to help creators monetize their existing platforms.
Oksana Sokolovsky
@horror_jervil thank you for your thoughts and feedback. Its very useful.

I got an email with the following reply from Oksana, which I assume to be deleted "@horror_jervil Find it interesting that being new member of the ProductHunt community, you took time to mark our platform as do not recommend based on your biased opinion or view of big platforms vs start ups that are building new. Way to go on building community and relationships" Yes, I am guilty of being new to producthunt, and also did not realize that my dislike of this particular idea would also be posted as a comment. But being new does not invalidate me from having opinions based on my experiences. This is a topic I am strongly opinionated on. This type of snarky reply is not a good look. I am all for people entering a market if they actually have something to offer, and it is my personal belief that you are not doing enough to stand out. I've seen countless websites coming and going saying things like "We do the same thing as justin.tv/twitch, just better!" and they just don't last. It's really difficult to get people to switch platforms. If you think I am wrong, just prove me wrong, it is that simple.
