How does the OCR actually handle scanned docs with mixed languages, and is there any file size or page limit I should know about for the free version?
@muammer1177418 Great question! Here's exactly how it works under the hood:
Mixed languages: The OCR runs entirely in your browser on Tesseract.js. It uses a hybrid approach — the tool first checks if a page already has embedded text (digital PDFs skip OCR entirely), and only runs recognition on pages that are actual scanned images, rendered at 2x scale for better accuracy. Currently the recognition engine is set to English, so English-dominant documents with European Latin accents (French, German, Spanish, etc.) work great, but non-English scripts like Chinese, Japanese, or Arabic aren't recognized yet. Multi-language support is on the roadmap — Tesseract itself supports 100+ languages, so it's coming, not an engine limitation.
Limits: There's no "free version" vs. paid — everything on PDFGit is free, no signup, no usage caps. The only hard limit is 50 MB per file. There's no page-count limit, but since all processing happens locally in your device's memory, very large scans (hundreds of pages at 300 DPI) get slower and depend on your hardware — a progress bar shows exactly where it is. And because nothing ever gets uploaded, your documents stay on your device the whole time.

That's exactly what we set out to build — every tool (merge, compress, OCR, watermark, sign, rotate, and the rest) runs 100% in the browser, so nothing ever touches a server. For sensitive docs like contracts, medical records, or tax forms, that removes the whole "is my file sitting on someone's server?" worry.
