OwnJournal is a zero-knowledge journaling app that keeps your entries in storage you own — never on our servers. Everything is encrypted on your device before it syncs. Open source under AGPL-3.0, built in Sweden under EU law. Free tier, or $19.99/year for Plus. iOS, Android and web, in 21 languages.
We built this because every journaling app we tried wanted you to hand your most private writing to a company and trust their privacy policy. We didn't want to be that company either, so OwnJournal is built so that we can't read your entries even if we wanted to.
How it works: entries are encrypted on your device, then synced to storage you own and control. We hold account metadata only — never content. It's open source under AGPL-3.0, so you don't have to take our word for any of that.
Free tier covers everyday journaling. Plus is $19.99/year.
We're around all day — happy to get grilled on the crypto design, and we genuinely want to hear what's missing.
