Hey Product Hunt 👋
I built Ownit because of something uncomfortable I noticed in my own work: with AI writing more of my code, I was pushing changes I couldn't fully explain. The code worked, but I didn't really own it. So Ownit asks you about it. After a git push, a short debrief runs right in your terminal, where Nemotron reads your diff and asks why you made the change, how it works and what comes next. You answer in your own words and it grades gently, because it's meant as a learning habit, not an anti-cheat tool.
Your repo gets a badge showing how many of your commits are verified and how many aren't. Nothing expires, so you can skip a debrief when you're busy and catch up later with "ownit interview", including pushes made by AI agents, GUI clients or --no-verify. It's free and open source: run "npm install -g getownit", then "ownit init" in your repo, and bring your own Nebius or NVIDIA key. I built the first version for the Nebius x NVIDIA Global AI Hackathon, and in full disclosure, I used AI to help build Ownit too, which is part of why I wanted it to exist.
The feedback that would help me most is whether the questions feel useful or like a chore, whether the grading is too soft or too strict, whether you'd put the badge in your README (and whether it would mean anything to you on someone else's repo), and what would make you keep it installed past the first week.
If you like the idea, a star on GitHub helps a lot, since it makes Ownit easier for other developers to find: https://github.com/Yoosseph/ownit
Thanks for checking it out. I'll be here answering everything today.
