Ornata is a lightweight desktop Markdown editor built for speed and clarity. It focuses on writing without friction — no accounts, no cloud dependency, and no hidden behavior. With instant startup, smooth performance even on large files, and a clear edit + preview workflow, Ornata stays out of your way and lets you focus on plain text and structure. Works naturally with Git and runs fully offline.
I built Ornata because I wanted a Markdown editor that truly stays out of the way.
Most tools I tried either added too much abstraction, hid the source, or slowly turned into systems instead of simple writing tools.
Ornata started as a personal experiment: a fast, offline-first editor focused on plain text, predictable behavior, and long-form technical writing. The goal was simple — remove friction between thought and text, without accounts, cloud dependencies, or surprises.
Throughout development, I kept stripping things back rather than adding more. If a feature didn’t directly help writing, it didn’t stay. Performance, clarity, and trust ended up shaping every decision.
I’d love to hear how you write in Markdown, what tools you rely on, and where you still feel friction today.
Thanks for checking out Ornata — feedback is very welcome.
