Hey everyone 👋 I built OpenCapture because a commercial screen recording tool blocked export behind a $90 paywall. That moment annoyed me more than it should have. I didn’t want: • a forced login • a watermark • a hidden export restriction • or a “free” product that isn’t really free I just wanted a clean, reliable Mac screen recorder that works. So I built one — and open-sourced it under MIT. OpenCapture is a native macOS screen recorder with: • Full screen or region capture • Microphone + system audio • Webcam overlay • Real-time background blur (with live preview) • Movable teleprompter (Markdown formatting + page navigation) • Pause/resume into a single recording file • Annotation tools with hotkeys • No login. No watermark. The latest release (v1.1) adds two major features: 1️⃣ Movable teleprompter with formatting + page navigation 2️⃣ Real-time webcam blur with adjustable intensity and preview This release completes the core feature set I originally set out to build. It’s not trying to be an enterprise video suite. It’s meant to be a solid, transparent, open-source recorder that respects users. If you try it, I’d genuinely appreciate feedback.
