Notipa is a free, open-source school-to-parent communication platform. Run your own instance with Docker — announcements, homework, fee notices, and permission slips, with no per-pupil licence fee.
honestly this looks really useful for smaller schools that get squeezed by those per-pupil fees. one thing though, would be great if you could add a simple read-receipt system so teachers know which parents actually saw the announcement. right now i'm guessing it's kind of a guessing game on whether the message landed.
Honestly the docker setup was way easier than I expected, had it running on my home server in like ten minutes. Love that there is no per-student fee nonsense, this could actually work for small schools.
Spun it up over the weekend and the Docker setup was painless, which is rare for self-hosted stuff. Love that fee notices and permission slips are baked in, would be great to see SMS notifications added next.
