Nitrosend's mail delivery engine, open sourced. NitroMTA is a self-hosted engine that speaks the Amazon SES v2 API: keep your SES code, change the endpoint, and send from your own IPs and domains. New IPs warm up receiver by receiver, and nitromta doctor checks every DNS record a receiver looks at. In our published benchmark, on the same AWS bare-metal server with every message on disk before it was accepted, it sustained 3.16× KumoMTA's throughput and 4.11× Postfix's. Rust, Apache-2.0.

Hi Product Hunt, Kam here, co-founder and CTO of Nitrosend.
Every email Nitrosend sends goes through a delivery engine, and ours was Amazon SES. We wanted our own: our IPs, our reputation, and delivery we could see into. So we built one in Rust, made it speak the SES v2 API so nothing upstream had to change, and Nitrosend has started sending through it. Today it's open source as NitroMTA.
Your SES code, as it is: point the official AWS SDK at NitroMTA and nothing else changes.
Fast, with every message safe: in our published benchmark, on the same AWS bare-metal server with every message on disk before it was accepted, NitroMTA sustained 3,313 messages a second, 3.16× KumoMTA and 4.11× Postfix. The method and raw results are public, and cargo harness quick reruns it.
Deliverability built in: new IPs warm up receiver by receiver, each mailbox provider gets its own limits, and nitromta doctor checks every DNS record a receiver looks at, with the exact record to publish for anything missing.
Try it on your own machine in a minute with capture mode, which shows each message in a browser instead of sending it, or follow the install guide from a bare server to delivered mail.
I'd love feedback from anyone running their own mail today, or paying for SES. I'm here all day 🙌🙌
Andrew here, one of the engineers on the Nitrosend team. Happy to take technical questions on NitroMTA, from the SES API to getting it running on your own server.
@auscasterhey George from nitro - we built NitroMTA so we could own our delivery end to end, now happy we're open source-ing it! Nitrosend has started sending through it, and anyone can run it too, literally point SES code at it. Happy to answer anything about sending at volume, warming new IPs, or why we decided that building our own was a good idea...
