Netty is a free, open-source macOS menu bar app. Its dot turns green, yellow or red depending on whether the internet really answers and how good the connection is, and its popover shows latency, jitter, loss, speed and your network.

Hey Product Hunt, I'm Angel and I built Netty.
The Wi-Fi icon in the menu bar answers one question: am I connected to a network? It doesn't tell you whether the internet actually answers. A hotel login page, a router that lost its uplink or a connection that crawls all look the same: full bars.
Netty is a dot that answers the question that matters. Green when the internet answers and the connection is good, yellow when latency, jitter or loss cross a threshold, red when a few checks in a row fail. Click it for latency, jitter, loss, the last speed test and your network, and get a notification when the connection drops and when it comes back.
It checks with Apple's captive portal page, times TCP handshakes with 1.1.1.1 and 8.8.8.8, and runs speed tests with macOS's own networkQuality. No analytics, no telemetry.
It's free, GPL-3.0, and needs macOS 26 or later. It isn't notarized yet, so the first launch needs Open Anyway in Privacy & Security.
What would make the yellow "degraded" status more useful for how you work?
