Writing a novel is hard. Keeping it consistent past 50,000 words is harder. Mythpen is a local-first desktop studio that keeps your characters, world rules, chapters, timeline and foreshadowing in one story bible — then grounds its AI co-writer in it. Guided and collab workflows, TXT/EPUB import, a payoff kanban for serials, consistency checks, EPUB/HTML/Markdown export. Bring your own OpenAI-compatible or Claude key. Free, open source, macOS/Windows/Linux.

Hey Product Hunt! 👋
I'm Nico, a solo maker. I love long-form fiction, but every draft hit the same wall: once a manuscript passes ~50k words, characters drift, timelines contradict, and the foreshadowing I planted three volumes ago quietly disappears.
So I built Mythpen: a local-first desktop studio where the AI is grounded in the book's own story bible — characters, world rules, timeline, foreshadowing and narrative memory. It doesn't just generate the next paragraph; it knows who is in the room and what they promised.
Three things I'd love feedback on:
1. Collab mode — it plans volumes and delivers the first three chapters, then hands the pen back to you. Where does that handoff feel awkward?
2. Payoff Board — a kanban for setups, reveals and payoffs, built for fast-paced web serials. Is the board the right mental model?
3. Import — drop in a 1M-word TXT/EPUB and see if the generated character and world profiles match your book.
It's free and open source (GPL-3.0), runs on macOS/Windows/Linux, and works with OpenAI-compatible APIs or Claude.
