Most reading calculators assume everyone reads at 200–300 wpm. That's wrong. MyReadingSpeed measures YOUR actual speed with a timed passage test — across 16 content types (fiction, academic papers, legal docs, technical docs, and more). Then uses your real speed to calculate how long any book or article will take. • Paste your own text to test • Bidirectional: words→time or time→words • Reading plan + finish-by-date calculator • Free, no signup, no data leaves your browser

Hey Product Hunt! 👋
I built MyReadingSpeed because I was frustrated with reading time estimates that were always wrong. Every calculator just assumes you read at 200-300 wpm — but that ignores two huge variables:
1. Content type matters enormously. I read fiction at 600+ wpm but academic papers at maybe 120 wpm. A single average is useless.
2. Individual variation is massive. Even for the same genre, people vary 3-4x.
So I built a tool that actually measures your speed first — with a timed passage from your specific content type — then uses that to calculate estimates.
Would love your feedback, especially on which content types you'd want added next. Happy to answer any questions! 🙏
