One of the most profound challenges in modern healthcare is how late hospice care is initiated. Too often, families delay the decision because of a prevailing misconception that entering hospice means "giving up." Our goal is to meet families where they are on their journey, so by having the myHospice Companion app sit on a phone's home screen, we are allowing this vital information to be readily available whenever they want to review it.

Hi Product Hunt!
When care begins in a state of crisis, families are too stressed and overwhelmed to process what is happening. There isn't time to make that memory box, record conversations, document family stories, or take photos.
Society moves at such a rapid pace now, and when the time comes and a loved one dies, families often express the same heavy feeling: 'I wish we would have started hospice sooner.'
What sets the myHospice Companion app apart from traditional material is it focuses on helping to create, not replace, that very important human connection around hospice via active learning and empowerment.
Our goal is by putting comprehensive education directly into the hands of the public via major app stores, we can reshape how society approaches end-of-life.
How does the app actually work day to day, like does it just sit there passively or does it send check-ins and resources to families on its own?
@aziz1764938 Thanks so much for asking. For version 1, our goal was to bring together all the fragmented information. For example, today there is not singular source of information, lots of great book and websites, but nothing that walks lock-n-step along the journey wherever they are. So we set out to create that journeys "pathway" so that anyone who is thinking about hospice, enrolling, already on, transitioning, all the way through the end, can join the pathway at their stage. This allows for an easy to understand resource about what to know, what to expect, information about their illnesses and medications. One of the most important features in version 1 are the questions to ask. This is major challenge as families don't know what to ask the hospice and hospice is always dancing around building trust and respect while trying to education on those "hospice myths". By us empowering families with this framework of questions in every section, we created a bridge between the family and the hospice team. Earlier and more frequent conversations often yields better outcomes.
So for version 1 the pathway and questions were the key. In version 2, there will be a LLM that allows for users to ask further questions and get responses based on our expert data (current AI models do ok with intelligence quotient (IQ) for hospice, but really struggle with the emotional quotient (EQ) side of hospice). We also plan to incorporate some further active learning, check-ins/check lists as well.
Thanks! Jason
