MousHero is a Safari for Mac extension that adds automation superpowers to your browsing experience. You'll be able to trigger custom URL actions from Safari's right-click menu, quickly launching apps, services and automations.
For the longest time, I wanted to be able to "do something" with the selected text in Safari, easily passing what I see in the browser to automations I have built in Shortcuts and third party apps like Keyboard Maestro and Drafts.
While Share extensions offer some export capabilities, they strictly allow the User to perform what they were coded for, usually requiring multiple clicks, while MousHero can trigger anything that has a URL.
I am not aware of any other Safari extension that allows such flexibility, so I built it first and foremost for myself, but talking to other automation enthusiasts I figured out a wide range of possible use-cases. For instance, the User can:
- Run Shortcuts passing the selection as parameter
- Open a specific website in a new panel
- Create a new note in Drafts with the selected text
- Open the Inbox project in OmniFocus or add the selected text as task
- Run a Keyboard Maestro macro passing the selection
- Search the selected text on StackOverflow
I hope my fellow Hunters will like MousHero and find it useful in their daily browsing of the interwebs! And if you have questions, you'll make my day!
