Hey Product Hunt! 👋
A while ago, I followed a personal dream of mine. I went to Kobe, Japan, to attend a short-term intensive Japanese language course.
Living and studying in Japan was an incredible experience, but it also opened my eyes to a big challenge most language learners face once they return home: without daily immersion, your skills fade fast. Traditional study apps and textbooks often felt too detached from the real-life conversations I actually encountered while I was in Japan.
When I came back, I decided to put my programming background to work and build the exact tool I needed - Miyabi J-Prep.
My goal was to create a handy, practical pocket companion that bridges the gap between test prep (JLPT N5–N1) and practical fluency, especially when it comes to listening and reading comprehension for real-life scenarios.
Here is what we focused on while building:
> Practical Listening & Reading: Scenarios and questions designed to test how you actually process Japanese in real situations, not just sterile flashcard memorisation.
> Interactive Furigana Toggle: Turn reading aids on or off with a tap so you can push your Kanji recognition at your own pace.
> Bite-Sized Daily Goals: Customisable drill counts so you can keep your skills sharp in 5–10 minutes during your commute or coffee break.
> Detailed Habit Analytics: Track your accuracy across Kanji, Grammar, Reading, and Listening to pinpoint your weak spots.
The app is live on both Android and iOS, and I’d love for the Product Hunt community and fellow Japanese learners to try it out!
We really appreciate your feedback! :) If you’re studying Japanese, what is the hardest part of keeping up your practice, and what features would help you most? 🚀
