Mirall is a P2P desktop app for moving terabyte-scale files and folders directly between collaborators. Private spaces, approval-gated membership, on-device and in-transfer encryption. All of this wrapped in a beautiful and intuitive user experience.

The idea to build Mirall was born at the Mallorca Film Festival. Companies and individuals in the movie industry often have the challenge to transfer large data files during the post production phase of a movie. While large production studios often offer their own file transfer solutions, smaller companies or individuals are often relying on consumer grade third party services, which is usually not allowed from a compliance perspective because of the potential of data leaks. Somehow it has become a really complex problem to transfer large files over the internet without some cloud storage. I overheard conversations where this was discussed and thought to myself that I might be able to solve that problem.
Finally something built for the actual headache of shipping huge project files without juggling cloud storage limits. The approval-gated spaces feel like the right default, and moving a 2TB folder between two laptops was noticeably faster than my usual handoff workflow.
@ekelikilkn72240 thanks for sharing. transfer speed is just limited by the throughput of the network, because there is no central server throttling the transfer.
A sync pause/resume button on transfers would be huge, especially for the larger file moves where my connection sometimes hiccups. Right now I think it just restarts from scratch, which on multi-terabyte jobs would be painful.
@bulem257022 you can pause and resume on individual files, or pause the mirror of a folder. it picks up where the download was paused. give it a try :)
the approval-gated membership is such a thoughtful touch, honestly most P2P tools just throw you into the wild. love that the encryption happens on-device too, feels like the team actually thought through the whole flow instead of just slapping features together.
@astambuse84875 on approval you get handed the cryptographic key to open the space. so this is not just some permission, but an actual cryptographic protection.
The approval-gated membership flow is such a thoughtful touch, makes sharing massive project files with new collaborators feel secure instead of nerve-wracking. Really clean execution on something that usually feels clunky.
