What do you think? …

Nate Kettles

We currently use Trello to manage to-do's as well as shopping and I think that works way better. I'll continue using that for now.

Pros:

It's trying to solve problems typically associated with living together

Cons:

The UX is pretty poor - for example assigning a task to someone

It's difficult to learn

The ads are incredibly obtrusive

Andrew Bergson
Hey Steven! Do you plan to release an Android version?
Steven Rueter
@andrew_bergson absolutely! Having just been released for iOS, I'll look to prove over the next several weeks that the concept is viable. If so (and I'm hopeful it is) I will focus on completing Merge for Android. Thanks for your comment.
Sam Sexton
@andrew_bergson @rueter I hope so. My home life may depend on you releasing this for Android!
Ayodele Odubela
@rueter @samsexton same! My boo has an android.
Steven Rueter
@ayodele_odubela Android in the pipeline, ill keep you posted! Thanks for your comment!
Romain Violleau
Cool concept but the design need to be more sexy in my point of view.
Steven Rueter
@rviolleau I appreciate your feedback. I agree there is definitely room for improvement. I initially wanted to focus on a bare bones/zero space design while emphasizing ease-of-use in order to test usability. I'll be tightening things up over the coming iterations.

@rviolleau @rueter Hey, if you need help with UX/design, hit me up! It looks like fun project to work on!
Romain Violleau
@rueter Ok I understand ;) Looking for your next update.
Steven Rueter
@rviolleau I'm starting to focus on cleaning up the UI. If you have any specific feedback, please feel free to email me at hello@merge.fyi so we can keep the conversation going. I need all the help I can get!
Jan Deruyck
@rviolleau @rueter I'm afraid the real estate you saved for the actual to do's is too big compared to the 'hit boxes' you provided to add tasks and save them. Really hard to finalise a to do, have to push it a couple of times. So UX really needs an overhaul for this to really kick off your aquisition and engagement KPI's.

There was an app 4 years ago avocado.io, their UI was incredibly nice and it was easy to use but they are out of the market because they couldn't monetize it.

Holding hands pic could be replaced by a symbol or an illustration...

Pros:

The concept is nice assigning tasks for couples

Cons:

Poor UI

@rueter Great app! But before I have seen anything to ask for subscription... Made me not sign up!
Steven Rueter
@tristancelebi it's a very fair and valid point you make, and I appreciate your feedback. You can actually use Merge entirely for free for as long as you want without paying a thing. The only difference is there is a cleanly integrated and unobtrusive native banner ad that sits at the top of the screen. It's completely out of the way, and there's no annoying interstitial ads or anything like that. Thanks again!
Özgür Celebi
@rueter I rather use the app straight away as free. And get a pop up here and there sometimes for better plans. Without seeing the button for subscription on the sign up...
Steven Rueter
@tristancelebi thank you, this is a great piece of feedback. I have no objections to re-configuring the onboarding like this. After all, most couples will opt for the free tier anyway, so it may as well be the default. I'll have to think of a way to "remind" people of premium without being annoying about it. Really great feedback, thank you.
Özgür Celebi
@rueter Yeah you are right. Don't worry about the pop up, you will figure it out like the AD that doesn't disturb to much. As long every Plan you offer, offers customer value. For example like: getting AD out of your way. You will be fine. Your goal is to prove anyway, that people are interested for that kind of product. How they will earn you money, is a different story.

@tristancelebi @rueter We have done this with our other apps Steven it should be based on intelligent data. Every users usecase and needs aren't the same given as people we all have variating interests, dislikes and personalities. So you can segment based on what data your gathering dynamically. Also what Ozgur is referring to is a pretty big red flag as ( I'm not sure you're tracking this ) but if not you should, your retention and churn tied to this over time because it might not seem like a big deal but this could be what hammers your retention and conversion right now + 30-90 day churn. So you'd want to track and look at the data here, also the key point is either charge upfront ) premium application ) people have been buying forward for decades, or charge based on conditions really showing everyone the same message in 2017 with self-driving cars being a thing makes no sense. Only people who should see a message should see that message, period that's what your users want, that's their basic expectation and it's a law. Law of design. New users need to get a certain level of a lot in order to onboard otherwise you're favoring really high churn and low retention over metrics like one day subscription revenue ( which might result in refunds at 20% ) over what actually will help this be a viable long term product.

Looks promising. Need Android, though.
Steven Rueter
@johnmal81355677 agreed. And soon. Thanks for your comment.

What's different than regular shared-ToDo apps for shared households? I'm living with a friend, does that mean I shouldn't use the app?
Steven Rueter
@yannschaub really great question. I think I could easily expand to roommates, and in fact I've gotten that feedback quite a bit. You are more than welcome to use Merge for you and your roommate. If there proves to be enough of an opportunity there, I may position Merge as a more neutral group to-do list app. For now, at least from a product position, I'm focusing on couples because I think there's a lot to solve (based on my personal life experience at the moment living with my girlfriend).
Yann
@rueter Cool man! Keep solving your own problems, that's the best approach. Was just wondering why you would exclude such a big target audience. For example the "Vote" screen could be super useful for shared households -> who's doing dinner tonight? who's feeding the cat? etc... I haven't seen that in other coliving-apps. Tbh we just use a shared google keep note for groceries so that works. But I wouldn't recommend this app to my female roomate because of the name 😛
Steven Rueter
@yannschaub 100%, I really appreciate the feedback, thank you. I can definitely see the vote feature expanding beyond couples as well as having more features. Could almost be its own app...
