Mathscene helps people create mathematical animations for lessons, presentations, and explainers without a local rendering setup. Users write TypeScript scenes, preview them live, scrub to any moment, and export an MP4 in the browser.
I used GPT-6 Astra through Codex to help engineer this workflow on top of manim-web, including timeline seeking, MP4 export, and browser testing. Astra also assessed task complexity and selected models within my development agent workflow.
Mathscene includes a copyable prompt that users can take to their own AI assistant, including Astra, to draft scenes from descriptions and timing instructions.
Astra’s role in this launch was as my development partner; integrated AI assistance is not currently part of the app.

Hi, I’m Hitesh. I’ve used Python Manim for presentations, but the cycle of setting up an environment, writing code, rendering, inspecting, and revising always felt cumbersome. Mathscene builds on manim-web, which provides the rendering foundation. My work has focused on the authoring experience around it, including timeline scrubbing, seeking to arbitrary moments, and MP4 export.
I built this with GPT-6 Astra as an engineering and reasoning partner. During development, I also used an agent workflow where Astra assessed task complexity and selected which model to call for each task.
Not sure where to start? Mathscene includes a prompt you can copy into your preferred AI assistant. Paste it, describe the animation you want, and ask it to draft a scene you can run and refine in Mathscene. Include a rough timeline to guide the pacing.
For example: “Show how two waves combine. In the first 3 seconds, introduce the waves separately. From 3 to 7 seconds, bring them together and reveal the combined wave. From 7 to 10 seconds, highlight where they reinforce or cancel each other.”
