Most file-to-Markdown tools rely on cloud processing. Markedly runs entirely on your Mac — no uploads, no accounts, no internet required. It outputs GitHub Flavored Markdown, so it works natively with Obsidian, Bear, Notion, and AI tools like Claude and ChatGPT. Supports DOCX, PDF, XLSX, CSV, and images with OCR. Free, with an optional donation to FA research.

Hey everyone — wanted to drop an update here for anyone who found Markedly through the original launch.
Just shipped v1.1, and it's a big one: you can now convert files right from Finder's right-click menu (no need to open the app at all), and convert straight from your clipboard in both directions — copy something in, or select text in any app and turn it into Markdown on your clipboard with one menu item.
Also cleaned up the Markdown output itself: proper GFM list nesting, fenced code blocks, table alignment markers. Still free, still fully local (nothing ever leaves your Mac), still zero third-party dependencies.
Thanks to everyone who tried it at launch and sent feedback — a good chunk of this update came directly from that. Grab the update on the App Store: https://apps.apple.com/us/app/markedly/id6760626933?mt=12
