Using Sol through Codex, we first transformed the concept—“equations become spells”—into a detailed product specification and milestone-based implementation plan. Sol then reasoned through decisions that crossed mathematics, game design, security, and software architecture: building a bounded expression parser instead of using eval, choosing a deterministic 60 Hz simulation, balancing damage without rewarding exploitative equations, and making wrapped collision and destructible terrain behave consistently. Codex carried that reasoning into the repository. It inspected the existing architecture, implemented features, ran tests, traced failures across files, and kept the documentation synchronized with the evolving game. This let us iterate at the level of complete systems rather than isolated code snippets. The human role remained essential: we set the vision, decided what felt fun, evaluated tradeoffs, and chose what to defer. GPT‑5.6 Sol compressed the distance between those decisions

I built Magicometry around a question I kept returning to: what would a math game look like if mathematics were the core mechanic, rather than a quiz players had to complete? In Magicometry, equations are spells. Players write functions, preview the resulting paths, and cast them during a real-time wizard duel. The hope is that experimentation naturally builds intuition: when you change a coefficient or add a trigonometric function, you immediately see—and feel—the result. OpenAI Codex powered by GPT‑5.6 was my primary development collaborator. I used it to turn the initial concept into a product specification, reason through the expression language and simulation rules, implement features directly in the repository, write tests, and identify gameplay exploits. Some of the hardest decisions involved balancing mathematical freedom with safety and fairness. Magicometry uses a custom bounded expression parser rather than eval, a deterministic simulation, and protections against infinite values, discontinuities, stationary attacks, and computationally expensive expressions. This is still an early version, and I’d especially love feedback on: Does creating a spell feel approachable? Are the mathematical effects easy to understand? Which functions or spell-building tools should be added next? Would you prefer solo challenges, online multiplayer, or more arena types first?
