Hi, I’m Vadim, the developer of Macventory. I built it to help answer a practical question: what’s installed on this Mac, and where did it come from?
Macventory brings applications and supported package-manager records into one searchable native inventory, with versions, paths, payload sizes and available installation/usage metadata. It also offers source-aware management previews and a separate Leftover Data view for possible residual application data. Uncertain associations require individual review.
It is completely free and open source under Apache 2.0, with no subscription or in-app purchases. Download the DMG from GitHub or install with Homebrew:
brew install --cask vadimtanel/macventory/macventory
Current release: v1.0.0 for Apple Silicon (ARM64), with a macOS 13+ deployment target. Minimum-OS runtime and every supported hardware configuration have not been independently verified. It is ad-hoc signed and not Apple-notarized, so Gatekeeper may restrict initial launch. Real destructive management workflows have not been comprehensively tested; review every target and maintain backups.
I welcome constructive feedback, feature suggestions, bug reports and contributions: https://github.com/vadimtanel/MacVentory/issues
