Lumen is a native companion app for Frigate NVR the open-source, AI-powered security camera system. No account, no cloud required. Live MJPEG streams, AI detection events, clip playback, push notifications, Apple Watch, widgets, Siri shortcuts, and macOS menu bar, built with SwiftUI for iPhone, iPad, Mac, Apple TV, Apple Watch, Vision Pro. Connect via local IP, VPN, or HTTPS reverse proxy. Your cameras, your data, your network.
Hey PH! I'm Kevin, indie dev behind Lumen.
I built this because I run Frigate NVR at home and was frustrated that the only way
to check my cameras on iPhone was through a mobile browser. No native app existed
that gave you the full experience — live streams, event playback, push notifications
— without requiring a cloud account or monthly subscription.
So I built one. Lumen connects directly to your Frigate instance over your local
network, Tailscale, or any HTTPS reverse proxy (Caddy, Nginx, Traefik). Everything
stays on your network.
What you get:
- Live camera grid with MJPEG streaming
- AI detection events with clip playback and snapshots
- Push notifications for person/car/animal detections
- Apple Watch app for quick glances
- macOS menu bar with floating camera windows
- Home Screen widgets and Lock Screen widgets
- Siri shortcuts ("Show front door camera")
- visionOS spatial security room (yes, really)
- Multi-server support with auto-endpoint switching
It's free to use with all core features. Pro unlocks unlimited cameras, widgets, and
the Watch app.
The entire app is built with SwiftUI and runs natively on all 6 Apple platforms. No
Electron, no web views, no React Native.
I've been shipping updates weekly based on community feedback from r/frigate —
reverse proxy auth fixes, Cloudflare tunnel detection, and better error messages are
all landing this week.
Would love to hear what you think, especially if you're running Frigate!
