Linguar pairs you with a tandem partner — you're learning their language, they're learning yours. Text, voice, and video are built in, with AI on your side: inline translations and explanations without leaving the chat. Highlight any word or correction and it becomes a spaced-repetition flashcard. Unlike lesson apps, everything you learn comes from real conversations with a real person. Free to use, built by a solo founder learning Vietnamese in Ho Chi Minh City.
Hi Product Hunt! 👋
I'm Carl, and I built Linguar because I'm learning Vietnamese in Ho Chi Minh City — and every app I tried taught me the textbook version of a language nobody actually speaks.
The idea is old and simple: tandem exchange. You find someone learning your language while you learn theirs, and you just... talk. Half the time in one language, half in the other. Linguar's job is to remove everything that makes that hard in practice:
Finding the right partner (we afford matching on language and interests)
The awkward early messages - get inspiration from a deck of topics to talk about. then once the conversation is going - AI gives you inline translations and explanations right in the chat, so you never have to bail to Google Translate
Retaining what you learn in the chat (highlight anything in a conversation → it becomes a spaced-repetition flashcard with audio)
Moving past text (voice and video calls built in — no swapping numbers)
It's free. I'd love feedback on anything, but especially: what stopped you the last time you tried a language exchange?
