Before my last job search, I never imagined how exhausting applying for jobs could be. I applied to hundreds of positions, and most either rejected me or never responded at all. It was especially discouraging to spend an hour tailoring my resume and writing a thoughtful cover letter for a role that seemed like a perfect fit, only to hear nothing back.
When I started applying again, I decided to build a tool to solve my own problem. I wanted to spend less time rewriting my application and more time discovering opportunities I was genuinely excited about.
The first prototype made me ridiculously excited. I copied in a job description, clicked a button, and it generated a tailored resume in minutes. It felt like I had just gotten an hour of my life back.
As I kept using it, I realized there were even more ways to make the process easier. I added features to analyze how well I matched a role, identify skill gaps, and suggest improvements before applying. Every iteration made LightningApply more useful - and honestly, more fun to build.
The moment it all clicked was when I used LightningApply to create a resume and cover letter, submitted my application, and landed an interview the very next day. That was an incredibly rewarding moment. While I can't promise those results for everyone, it confirmed that I was building something I wished I'd had from the very beginning.
LightningApply was born from a simple goal: help job seekers spend less time formatting documents and more time finding the right opportunity. I genuinely hope it helps others the way it helped me, and I'm excited to hear what the Product Hunt community thinks.
