It doesn't update in real time as you move, but you can pull-to-refresh to get updated distances.
Also, on the home page, spots are organized by category (like Cafe, Sightseeing, Aquarium), and a category only shows up if there's actually a matching spot nearby — so it should still be handy even in a place you've never been before.
