How does Kitchen Hub actually track inventory - do I have to manually scan every item or is there some kind of smart shelf integration? Curious how hands-off the experience really is day to day.
There is no smart shelf integration or external hardware. We focused heavily on making the software loop extremely smooth so that you don't have to scan barcodes or manually type things in every day. Here is how hands-off the experience is:
Closed-Loop Shopping: When you check off items on your shopping list, the app automatically adds them to your active inventory. You don't have to log them a second time.
Frictionless Consumption Logs: Instead of typing numbers, you just tap the item, hit `Mark as Consumed`, and tap a quick shortcut (like `1/2` or `All`) to log what you ate. It takes less than 2 seconds.
Automated Grocery Lists: If you set a minimum threshold for your kitchen staples, the app monitors your stock levels. As soon as you log consumption that drops you below that threshold, the app automatically adds the item back to your "Auto Groceries" shopping list with a calculated suggested quantity.
Multi-Batch Expiry Alerts: You can track different expiry dates for the same item (e.g., two yogurts bought at different times) and the app will proactively warn you when each is close to spoiling.
In practice, the day-to-day experience feels highly automated because you only need to tap to confirm when you buy or finish an item, and the app handles all the list-building, expiry tracking, and quantity calculations for you!

How does it actually know when something runs out, do you have to scan every item yourself or does it integrate with smart shelves or something like that?

@emrahjokt Hey! Thanks for checking us out and asking.
We don't integrate with smart shelves or external hardware sensors (yet!). Instead, Kitchen Hub is designed to make inventory management as frictionless as possible using software automation:
Auto-Restocking from Shopping Lists: When you go grocery shopping and check items off your list in the app, it automatically restocks and logs them in your active inventory. You never have to manually enter them twice!
One-Tap Consumption Tracking: When you use or throw away food, you can tap `Mark as Consumed` or `Mark as Discarded` and use quick shortcuts (like `1/2 Qty` or `All Qty`) to update your stock in about two seconds.
Smart Minimum Thresholds: You can set a low-stock threshold for any item (e.g., "always keep 2 cartons of milk"). When your stock drops below this, the app automatically adds it to your "Auto Groceries" list with the exact quantity needed to restock.
While it's not physical smart-shelf automation, it bridges the gap by automating the transition from your shopping list to your inventory and vice versa, keeping manual typing to a bare minimum!
