Hi Product Hunt! ๐
I'm thrilled to introduce KidShelf โ a reading app that actually listens to your child read out loud and gives them real-time feedback.
The problem: Most "reading apps" are really just audiobooks or flashcard games. Kids tap, swipe, and watch โ but they don't actually read. Parents want to help, but sitting down for 20 minutes of guided reading every day is hard to fit in.
What KidShelf does differently:
๐ Real-time speech recognition โ Your child reads a story out loud, and the app follows along word by word, highlighting what they've read correctly. No other children's reading app does this well.
๐ฃ๏ธ Speech pattern analysis โ We track 16 clinically-recognized speech patterns (the same ones speech-language pathologists use) like R-sounds, TH-sounds, and consonant blends. Parents get a clear picture of which sounds their child struggles with โ and practice exercises to improve them.
๐ฏ Adaptive difficulty โ The app calibrates to your child's voice and adjusts sensitivity so it's encouraging, not frustrating. Kids with speech challenges get extra leniency on sounds they're still learning.
๐ Real progress tracking โ Word-level accuracy, reading streaks, vocabulary mastery (5 levels per word), daily stats, and XP-based leveling. Parents can see exactly how their child is improving over time โ not just "time spent in app."
๐ Works offline & privacy-first โ Powered by on-device speech recognition. No data leaves the device. No internet required. No creepy data collection on your kids.
๐จโ๐ฉโ๐งโ๐ฆ Multi-child profiles โ One app for the whole family. Each child gets their own progress, reading level, and voice calibration.

Our story: As a parent, I wanted something that would actually help my kids practice reading independently โ not just entertain them. Every reading app I tried was passive. I built KidShelf to be the patient, always-available reading buddy that listens, encourages, and tracks real progress.
