Karafe helps you pick wine based on your actual taste, not grape names you've never heard of. A 3-min quiz (coffee, chocolate...) builds your profile among 10 taste families, then we recommend matching bottles. Catalog: 120 estates, 350 cuvées from independent winemakers, ~30% Swiss, mostly organic/biodynamic. Order from 2 bottles, free delivery. No AI — a statistical model plus real human curation by our in-house oenologist.
Love the taste-first angle and the human curation part really stands out. One thing that would help me commit to ordering: a short note on each bottle explaining what about it matches my profile, not just a match score. Something like "you liked the cocoa and cherry notes in the Gamaret" would make the recommendation feel personal instead of algorithmic. Would love to see that on the bottle pages.
@elife1174609 This is such a good point, Elife and honestly a bit of a "why didn't we think of that" moment. A match score alone does feel a little algorithmic, you're right. Adding a short "why this matches you" note per bottle (like your cocoa/cherry/Gamaret example) is very doable with what we already tag internally, just wasn't surfaced yet. Noting this down as a near-term addition. Thank you!
The quiz approach is clever, and I appreciate the no-AI stance. One thing I'd love to see: let me rate bottles I've already tried so the recommendations learn from my actual drinking history, not just the quiz. A simple thumbs up/down on past orders would make future picks feel way more personal.
@perihan69108 Totally fair, Perihan, right now the profile is a snapshot from the quiz, it doesn't yet learn from what you actually order or like afterward. A simple 👍/👎 on past bottles to refine future picks is exactly the kind of feedback loop we want to add in the next weeks. Really appreciate you spelling out what "more personal" would look like concretely, that's genuinely useful for us.
Love that the quiz uses simple things like coffee and chocolate instead of pretentious tasting notes. Tried it and the bottles it suggested actually matched what I ended up liking at a friend's dinner.
@necdetc2xx That's exactly the test we wanted it to pass, not "did you like the wine on paper" but "did it show up right at the table." Really glad it held up at a friend's dinner, that's the best kind of proof.
love the taste quiz idea since grape names really do nothing for most people. one thing that would help a lot is letting me save a few favorites from the catalog and get a heads up when similar bottles from the same estate show up, kind of like a light watchlist for new vintages or limited releases.
@zeynepyazgfavi Grape names never told anyone what they'd actually enjoy drinking, so scrapping them felt obvious once we tried it. The watchlist idea is smart, following an estate instead of just a single bottle makes a lot of sense for limited releases. Noting this one down, thanks for the input.
