Hi Product Hunt! Kaiwa Talk is an open-source app for practicing Japanese conversation with a 3D AI avatar. You can speak or type, then listen and keep the conversation going. When you get stuck, two suggested replies give you a starting point. Kana and romaji help you read along, and 0.8x replay gives you more time to catch a sentence. At the end of a session, you can review the conversation. You can also save memories manually, bring a custom VRM 1.0 avatar, and export session audio. A few details before you try it: there is no app sign-up or subscription, but you need your own Alibaba Cloud Model Studio (Bailian) API key. API usage is charged to your account. The interface supports English, Chinese, and Japanese; learning explanations and session reviews are in Japanese, with some Chinese glosses. Kaiwa Talk does not score pronunciation. The source code is available under MIT; third-party assets retain their own licenses.
