Hi PH Community,

I’m excited to share KAEditor, an AI-powered code editor built for developers who want speed, privacy, and full control - without the high costs or vendor lock-in that come with most AI coding tools today.

Why We Built It: Many popular AI coding tools (like Cursor, Windsurf, etc.) route your code through their private servers, act as middlemen for LLMs, and charge expensive API fees on top of your usage. We wanted something faster, cheaper, and more transparent.

KAEditor connects directly to any LLM, anywhere. You can:

  • Use private, self-hosted models like DeepSeek, Llama, Gemini, and Qwen locally.

  • Connect directly to frontier LLMs like Claude , Gemini , Grok, o4, and Qwen, without KAEditor sitting in the middle.

    Skip expensive middle-layer fees entirely.

    Key Features:

  • Instant autocomplete

  • Quick inline edits on selected code

  • AI chat with Agent Mode, Gather Mode, and normal chat

  • No backend routing - your data never passes through KAEditor servers

  • Lower cost

We believe developers should have open, affordable, and private AI coding tools. KAEditor is our attempt to build that future.

Would love your feedback, feature requests, or thoughts on how we can improve it! Happy to answer any questions.

Looks like a great product!

Really like the feature that keeps code private. I’ve always been hesitant to send my code to OpenAI or Claude. This could solve a huge trust issue for developers!
