I started building Islamic Dream Reflection because most dream interpretation tools I found fell into one of two extremes: generic symbol dictionaries, or AI-generated answers that sounded far too certain. For a topic as personal — and sometimes religiously sensitive — as dreams, I wanted something more careful. The idea was to create a reflection experience inspired by Islamic dream traditions while clearly separating traditional sources, personal context, and AI-generated reflection. The product avoids fortune-telling, definite predictions, and religious rulings. Instead, it helps people explore what a dream might invite them to reflect on. The approach changed quite a bit during development. Early versions focused too heavily on “interpreting” symbols. Over time, I shifted the experience toward a guided flow: describe the dream, add context and emotions, consider relevant traditional perspectives, and then receive a cautious personal reflection. I also spent more time than expected on source handling and wording. In a sensitive domain, saying “this dream means X” is very different from saying “some traditions discuss this symbol in relation to X.” That distinction became one of the core principles behind the product. I’d love to hear how others think AI should handle topics where culture, religion, personal experience, and uncertainty all overlap.
