Test M3U8 streams with our web HLS demo player and viewer. Check native HLS playback, preview live streams, and download M3U8 video files.

Hey Product Hunt!
We're excited to launch our latest free tool: HLS M3U8 Debug Player
Why we built this
At VdoCipher, we've spent 10+ years building video infrastructure, helping thousands of platforms securely host, protect, and stream video content.
One recurring frustration we've encountered while working with streaming developers and video teams is how difficult it can be to test and debug an HLS stream quickly.
You have an .m3u8 URL. You want to check whether it plays correctly, see which quality levels are available, understand why playback is buffering, or figure out why a stream isn't loading.
But opening an HLS URL in a browser doesn't always work, and traditional video players rarely tell you what's happening behind the scenes.
Sometimes you end up digging through browser developer tools, writing test code, or installing specialized software just to diagnose a simple playback issue.
So we built something simpler.
A free HLS/M3U8 player that lets you play, inspect, and debug streams directly in your browser, with real-time playback diagnostics.
Here's what it can do:
- Play Live & VOD streams: Paste an HLS .m3u8 URL and start playback using hls.js, with native HLS support where available.
- Real-time player analytics: Monitor resolution, bitrate, bandwidth estimates, buffer health, dropped frames, and live latency.
- Inspect available renditions: View available quality levels and manually switch resolutions to test adaptive bitrate behavior.
- Debug playback problems: Track manifest loading, quality changes, fragment events, and playback errors through a detailed debug console.
- Raw manifest viewer: Examine master and media playlists to identify issues with segments, codecs, and stream configuration.
- Custom player settings: Adjust hls.js parameters such as buffer length, low-latency mode, and adaptive bitrate behavior.
- DRM playback testing: Configure Widevine, PlayReady, or FairPlay playback using your own compatible license server.
- Share and integrate: Generate shareable test links or copy ready-to-use JavaScript, HTML5, and cURL examples.
And there's no software to install, no signup, and no need to upload your videos to our servers. The browser fetches streams directly from their origin.
Who it's for
Streaming developers testing HLS implementations, video engineers investigating buffering and playback problems, QA teams validating streams across different environments, EdTech and OTT platforms checking their streaming pipelines, and anyone who needs to quickly play or inspect an M3U8 URL.
Whether you're troubleshooting a live broadcast or testing an on-demand video, you can see what's happening inside the player without building your own debugging setup.
Our ask
This is our first version, and we'd really appreciate your feedback.
We're particularly interested in what would make this more useful for your streaming workflow.
Should we add:
- Side-by-side stream comparison?
- Visual bitrate and buffer-health graphs over time?
- Automated HLS manifest validation?
- More detailed segment-level network diagnostics?
- Exportable debugging reports?
- Multi-stream testing?
Tell us what would help you most. We're actively working on improvements and would love to build around real developer needs.

Huge thanks to the VdoCipher team for building this and to the Product Hunt community for checking it out.
I'll be here throughout the day answering questions, discussing streaming challenges, and collecting feedback on what we should build next!
