Herae plays a film in sync for people in different places, on almost any site (Netflix, Prime, YouTube…), and puts a free video call right beside it. Nothing is screen-shared: both players stay in step, so no black screen and no countdown. Watching with someone far away? They join from a link, no account needed. Nobody to watch with? Meet people who love the same films (you both say yes first, 18+), or join a public watch party by film. Desktop Chrome. Your first two nights are free.

Hi everyone, Hisaan here, the maker of Herae.
The idea came from a very ordinary annoyance: counting down "3, 2, 1" over a call so two people can press play together, then drifting apart a few minutes later. Sharing a screen doesn't help either, since Netflix and Prime turn into a black rectangle.
Herae takes a different route. Nothing gets streamed between you: both people press play on their own account, the picture stays sharp, and Herae holds the two players together, with a video call sitting next to the movie.
While building it I noticed lots of people saying they simply had nobody to watch with. So there's now a second half: a small profile of your taste, people who like the same films, and no messages until both of you agree (18+ only). You can also join open watch parties for a particular film.
What it can't do yet: it only runs in Chrome on a computer, everyone needs their own access to what you're watching, and the meet-people side is young, so it's still a small crowd. If anything confuses you or breaks, please tell me here.
The first two movie nights cost nothing. Until 31 Oct there's also a founding price: a year of Herae Together for $29 (usually $49).
