I came up with Heatwave hungover in bed. I wanted to be intentional with my attention and feel caught up, not scroll through hours of slop brain rot. Every post is blurred. Tap the flame to tell someone you’re excited to see it. One flame won’t open it. When enough people rally, it opens for all of them at once. Scroll past and it stays locked. Curiosity, then a slow burn. A social app in 2026 is insane. But there had to be something more exciting than this. Build the hype, earn the reveal.

You know the guy in the comments asking “what colour was the car though”? You scroll back up and you’ve got no idea. You watched the whole thing, it just went straight in, and you’re nine reels deep before you hit someone selling a course. Every one of them built with a hook (yeah, we’re all sick of that word).
I was hungover as hell on a fine Canadian morning staring at a disposable camera on my nightstand from the night before. I thought to myself, why do people pay for this overpriced piece of nostalgia that produces a tenth of the quality and 100x the inconvenience? I thought the answer was simple...it was for the curiosity. To have to wait until you develop then re-live the memories and laugh at the shitty, over-exposed picture of your friend at the bar. Why couldn't this feeling be translated to social media (and I mean what it used to be before we were all brainwashed). I wanted to .... You pick what you want to see, you let the person know you’re excited for it, and you wait with everyone else who wants it too. When it finally burns through, it actually feels like something. Social, but so unsocial it actually works.
And yes, another social app is crazy. But I genuinely believed in chasing my dreams and I wasn't going to let the fear of a graveyard of apps stop me from seeing it through. If you’re going to take a swing at Meta, build the one thing they can’t. Their whole business is you looking at everything and remembering none of it.
What we’d love feedback on:
The first time you saw a blurred feed, were you curious or annoyed?
How many flames should a post need to open? Right now whoever posts picks the number.
Would you post on it? What would make you?
We’ll be in the comments all day. Get on it with your friends and tell me you weren’t sitting there thinking “what the actual f*** did they post?” and then caught yourself smirking.
