This word game app 'Hangman: Shadow Valley' releases on the App store for IOS today 9/10th sept. As a video editor I started learning Swift app coding in 2025 after watching Chris Ching's youtube tutorial. Building my first AI prompted app a week later on Windsurf (now Devin) i was amazed to find i'd created a working digital version of the traditional Hangman game literally in an evening. I was flabbergasted. I tried to create an alternative using Cursor but it just didn't feel as compelling as the original Windsurf version. By trial & error i used the Windsurf editor Cascade as well as Chat GPT, Deepseek & Gemini to create code snippets & also altering code directly in Xcode. Altering & testing & tweaking code was & still is a hazardous learning experience but somehow worth all the trouble. Scaling the GFX & UI for different size phones seemed particularly arduous. There are definitely tradeoffs & pitfalls when trying to finesse any aspects of the visuals, sound, user experience etc..without a full grasp of the coding. That is still a work in progress...
But seeing the existing apps & coming from a visual/audio background I felt I could create a more modern, sleek feel, one that i would find stimulating & peaceful. After adding some monochrome AI generated backgrounds & ambient/natural sound effects & months of testing & adding a couple of extra languages i thought, 'if i enjoy it... why not release it'. So I am putting it out there to see what happens!! Whatever happens it's been a great journey & learning curve...feedback welcome!
